Bill Gates' last day at the office

MICROSOFT IS THE ONLY COMPANY IN THE WORLD , WHICH HAS EVER TAKEN ANY LOAN FROM ANY BANK

ONE OF THE LARGEST GROWING COMPANIES IN THE WORLD, STILL REMAINS AT THE TOP

MACINTOSH computer fanatics won't have Bill Gates to kick around anymore.

The Microsoft co-founder and driving force in the company, whose boyish face and nerdy manner epitomizes the US software colossus, spends his last day at the office today(i.e 27th JUNE,2K8).

However, Mr Gates, 52, remains chairman of the Microsoft board of directors and the company's largest shareholder.

After decades devoted to Microsoft, Mr Gates turns his attention full time to the philanthropic Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation he established with his wife.

Paul Allen, who teamed with Mr Gates to start Microsoft in a garage in 1975, will be among those "roasting" his childhood friend at a gala dinner affair Friday night.

Mr Gates leaves Microsoft to wrestle with a fast-changing computer era and growing challenges from internet juggernaut Google and longtime rival Apple, which makes Macintosh computers.

Three people will essentially fill the void Mr Gates leaves behind at Microsoft.

His job as chief software architect is being handled by Ray Ozzie.

Craig Mundie inherited the co-founder's chief research and strategy officer duties, while former Harvard University classmate Steve Ballmer is chief executive officer at the software colossus based in Redmond, Washington.

Microsoft is losing Mr Gates at a time when "cloud computing" is shaking the packaged software foundation on which the company's fortune is built.

Cloud computing refers to a trend in which firms such as Google and Salesforce.com let people use programs on the internet instead of having to install and maintain software on their own machines.

Microsoft competes in the "software as a service" arena, but tends to combine offerings with packaged products in a "software-plus" marketing model, according to analysts.

Vista loathing is heightening interest in free Linux open-source software and Macintosh computers, which use operating systems built by Apple.

Rivalry between Microsoft and Apple is legendary in Silicon Valley. Apple ads and press conferences routinely take swipes at Microsoft and devotees of competing systems.

The culture-shifting popularity of Apple's iPods and iPhones is credited with increasing interest in Macintosh machines.

While Windows is still used on 90 per cent of the world's computers, Macintosh computers have grown to more than five per cent of the market.

Microsoft began selling Zune brand MP3 players in September of 2006 to compete with Apple's market-dominating iPods, but the devices haven't been a hit with customers.

Microsoft failed in a recent bid to buy Yahoo for nearly $US50 billion ($52.16 billion) in order to combine online resources to better battle Google in the booming internet search and advertising.

Microsoft's server and tools division is its most profitable unit. Its entertainment unit, which sells Xbox video game consoles and gaming software, has yet to make a profit.

Mr Gates is expected to maintain the ears of Microsoft leaders. He bequeathed them a legacy that includes focusing in-house teams on what Mr Gates expects to be major technology trends, such as an "internet tidal wave."

"At some point the firm has to take the essence of what made Bill Gates successful and make sure that is preserved," said analyst Rob Enderle of Enderle Group in Silicon Valley.

R. D. Burman, and also known as Pancham da was born on (June 27, 1939January 4, 1994) was one of the great music composers of Bollywood. Commonly R.D. Burman is known as Pancham among his fans. He was the only son of singer and music composer Sachin Dev Burman and Meera, and the second husband of playback singer Asha Bhosle. He is credited with revolutionizing the music in Hindi films, and his style and techniques continue to be followed by the composers of today.

Some of R D Burman's successful movie albums were:

ATM

A mechanical cash dispenser was developed and built by Luther George Simjian and installed in 1939 in New York City by the City Bank of New York, but removed after 6 months due to the lack of customer acceptance.

The ATM got smaller, faster and easier over the years. Thereafter, the history of ATMs paused for over 25 years, until De La Rue developed the first electronic ATM, which was installed first in Enfield Town in North London, United 27 June 1967 by Barclays Bank This instance of the invention is credited to John Shepherd-Barron, although various other engineers were awarded patents for related technologies at the time. Shepherd-Barron was awarded an OBE in the 2005 New Year's Honours List. The first person to use the machine was the British variety artist and actor Reg Varney. first ATMs accepted only a single-use token or voucher, which was retained by the machine. These worked on various principles including radiation and low-coercivity magnetism that was wiped by the card reader to make fraud more difficult. The machine dispensed pre-packaged envelopes containing ten pounds sterling. The idea of a PIN stored on the card was developed by the British engineer James Goodfellow in 1965.

However, the modern, networked ATM was invented in Dallas, Texas, by Don Wetzel in 1968. Wetzel was a department head at an automated baggage-handling company called Docutel. In 1995 the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History recognized Docutel and Wetzel as the inventors of the ATM.[citation needed]

ATMs first came into wide UK use in 1973; the IBM 2984 was designed at the request of Lloyds Bank. The 2984 CIT (Cash Issuing Terminal) was the first true Cashpoint, similar in function to today's machines; Cashpoint is still a registered trademark of Lloyds TSB in the U.K. All were online and issued a variable amount which was immediately deducted from the account. A small number of 2984s were supplied to a USA bank. Notable historical models of ATMs include the IBM 3624 and 473x series, Diebold 10xx and TABS 9000 series, and NCR 5xxx series.
